hmmm.....lost a bit of steam on that Christian Bale portrait...
haven't really been painting much lately and been really busy with other projects
buuut

Portrait part 3

Part 3 of my portrait painting

First i fix the angle of the face, since its a little off, with the lasso tool and then the free transform tool to rotate it a bit. Then i keep adding details to the face, more shading, eyebrows. The eyebrows have to be worked on in real detail to make them look like convincing hair. I occasionally check the shape of the face and reshape it with a brush and eraser. While the original sketch is useful, you can see that i don't really follow it much at this point.

Oh. It's a portrait of Christian Bale (BATMAN!!).

Portrait Part 2

Well since i have part 2 of my portrait done might as well post it up. Anyway this video starts a little bit after we left off. I made some corrections to the face and added a little more detail before i started recording again. The eyes were too high in the head and the mouth was too far from the nose. Ahhhh the miracles of the lasso tool....

Anyway here i add more shadows to the face and start defining the facial hair. The eyes are also fixed up a lot. I always like working on the eyes first...it brings soul to the painting (corny as that may sound). Can anyone tell who it is yet?

So here's me. I'm an artist. And this blog is for my digital painting. I can't say I'm very accomplished in this craft yet, so I'm here to learn. Your critiques and comments would be appreciated. On this blog i will post my artwork, and most of the time step-by-step videos of how i accomplished said art when i can. So! without further ado....here goes!

This is me starting off a portrait project. It's done from a reference picture. It's a celebrity (I won't say who yet). It starts off not really looking like much but a blob, but it gets better! I'll just outline some steps:

1. Fill the background with black
2. Add a new layer
3. Draw some basic construction lines of the head in white
4. Fill in the basic features of the face
5. Set the lineart layer to 30% opacity
6. Create a new layer underneath the lineart
7. Paint the skin with a basic gray color
8. Paint away with a soft edged brush at 40-50% opacity

That's it for now! more to come later....this painting's far from done
